More than Prayer:
A Forum for Caregivers of loved ones with Dementia
About 16 million people in the United States are unpaid, home-based caregivers for someone with dementia. A growing number of them are parishioners at Christ’s Church. In the years ahead, many more Americans including members of the church’s youth group today will be on the front lines of care for people we love.
On Sunday February 2nd Christ's Church will host a one-hour training session offering practical advice drawn from recent research about a world of healthy choices for caregivers. And it will welcome anyone at any age to learn about the power of lifestyle decisions made long before dementia strikes a family.
Session leader Gurney Williams III is a parishioner, writer, former caregiver and advocate with his family for the Alzheimer’s Association. He worked with his daughter, actor Kimberly Williams-Paisley, on her best-selling book, Where the Light Gets In.
His current mission is developing a broader curriculum of one-hour sessions for caregiver training in tandem with a book, A Gentle Guide for Caregivers: The Power of Choice in Dementia’s Early Stage.
Inspīr, a nearly completed luxury senior living community on Manhattan's Upper East Side, is providing generous support for the project. Williams receives no remuneration from the company.
